Mini Drug Store Makeup Haul!

Hey Everyone!

I’m soooo sorry for the delay in posting, I’ve been so sick and haven’t wanted to do anything at all. But I’m back this week and I’m writing about my first mini “Drug Store Makeup Haul” on my blog! The products in this haul were purchased from CVS, Walmart and Target over the past few weeks and I’m going to give you a review/first thoughts about these products so far!

The products discussed are:

  • Hard Candy Baked Bronzer in Heat Wave ($9)
  • Sonia Kashuk Bare Illuminating Bronzer in Goddess ($12)
  • Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Airbrushing Bronzing Veil in Dark ($16)
  • Milani Baked Blush in Rose Doro ($7)
  • Revlon Gold Series Titanium Coated Lash Curler ($10)
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent ($4)

I went a little nuts with the bronzer, I actually bought all three in the same day. I was going to the beach that weekend and wanted to get my J-Lo on so I decided I wanted to buy one shimmery bronzer. Ended up with three! Whoops!

When I was in Walmart, I went back and forth on this product because I couldn’t tell if the shade was going to be dark enough. I held it up next to my Hard Candy Hula Hula bronzer (it’s really a highlighter) and they looked pretty similar so I wasn’t sure. I didn’t know if I wanted to spend $9 on this bronzer if I wasn’t sure it would work but I decided to buy it anyway. As you can tell by the swatch (#1), it is more of a bronzy gold highlight then a bronzer.

Is it worth it? I believe for most skin tones, if you’re intending to use these Hard Candy Baked Bronzers as an actual bronzer to warm up the face, it’s not going to work. However, I love the color and I’m planning on using it as a highlight over my cheekbones or to lightly dust it over my bronzer to give it a little something extra. I love gold highlights and the closer I am to looking like a Greek Goddess, the better. So I love this product when used as a highlight or to take any bronzer to the next level, not as a warm up the face bronzer on its own.

I mean look at it, the packaging and the product is just gorgeous. So gorgeous that I used it for my featured image, whoops! What’s cool is that the pattern actually stays as you continually use the product too which is awesome. I love this bronzer and I’ve been using this one nonstop since I bought it. It’s that perfect bronze colored shimmery bronzer I was looking for (swatch # 2) and I love it! I had heard so many great reviews about this product and I definitely believe it has lived up to the hype!

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Airbrushing Bronzing Veil in Dark

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Airbrushing Bronzing Veil in Dark ($16) (CVS)

This is my first Physicians Formula bronzer and it is extremely overwhelming staring at a CVS wall of bronzers while trying to decide which one I wanted. I eventually ended up picking the one I couldn’t take my eyes off of and c’mon, look at it, it’s gorgeous. The packaging is amazing, the design is awesome and the bronzer looks so bronzy!

Is it worth it? I’m not sure. For my skin tone and my desire to do something different, absolutely! However, I don’t think this product is for everyone. Let me explain.

As you can tell by the swatch (#3), it looks just like the Sonia Kashuk bronzer but pinker, kind of like a rose gold color, which confused me when I first saw it. It doesn’t look like it would come off that way in the pan, but on my skin tone at least, it comes off a bit pink instead of a copper/bronze color like I thought it would.

I have to say I do like this bronzer, it’s so different than anything I’ve ever seen. It’s not like it’s straight up pink because it still has that bronzy-ness to it, which is why I described it earlier was a rose gold shade. I personally love it, but I’m sure this won’t be for everyone.

The main negative I have about this product is that as soon as you use it/swatch it, you wipe away that beautiful copper/shimmery overspray almost immediately which is disappointing.

Milani Blush in Rose Deoro

So this is my first Milani product! Yeah, I’m late on that bandwagon. But I’ve heard so many great things about their blushes and decided to finally try one! I wanted the coral shade but they were out, so I got Rose Doro instead. I love this blush! The color is gorgeous (#4) and it is so pigmented! I can’t wait to buy more!

Revlon Gold Series Titanium Coated Lash Curler

Revlon Gold Series Titanium Coated Lash Curler ($10) (Walmart)

I was in desperate need of a new eyelash curler and decided to try this one out because it made a lot of promises I was hoping they could keep and I loved the color. Let me say, I’m loving this lash curler so far! My favorite part is how high the arch of the curler goes!

I swear that arch has helped my eye lashes sooooo much, it’s amazing. I’ve never seen my lashes so high and they stay there all day long! So yes, so far I’m loving these.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent ($4) (Walmart)

I have been looking for this powder for months now and have been unable to buy it because either the store is out or the few powders left were shattered. I finally just found this at Walmart last week. I have dry skin so I don’t really need to set my face for oil purposes, but I do like to do it just so my makeup lasts throughout my work day. Today was my second day in a row wearing it, so I haven’t been able to test it out a ton first, but both days I’ve worn this powder, I’ve gotten compliments on my makeup. I swear, it helps give me an air brushed look. I’m not sure though, my skills could’ve just been on point these past two days, but I’ll see and get back to you. So far, so good though.

  1. Great post! Do you find that the Rimmel powder is flat looking since it’s matte? I’m always on the look out for a new powder. I have mature skin (old) so I have to be careful. Don’t want to accentuate the wrinkles I already have. LOL!

  2. I have a curved mascara curler like that from Japan – it’s a neat concept and it really does make my lashes more curled. I’m glad to see North American brands offering a similar technology!
That Sonia Kashuk bronzer looks gorgeous, she can do no wrong!
    Nice drugstore haul! 😀

  3. Rimmel Stay Matte bronzer is my fave! I also like the Elf set because it’s more natural. I’m about to go makeup shopping today. I’m so excited!

  4. not much of a bronzer-girl BUT i definitely loved the quality of the hard candy stuff i got sent by a friend (we sadly dont have that brand here in germany *meh*) and well, even when the color sometimes might not be as expected it is some nice shade i thihnk!
